ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
To Mi Mamacita and all Caregivers who care for a loved one who has Alzheimer's .
INTRODUCTION
This is a Memoir, a true story about a baby-boomer daughter who devoted six months of her life to care for her beloved mother whom is Hispanic/Latina and has Alzheimer's. Presently, she continues to care for her mamacita thru "long distance caregiving". This book is mostly a memoir and some "how-to-suggestions" to cope, live and care for a loved one with Alzheimer's and the family and with the importanct qualities of faith, culture, familly, love and patience.
This story is uniquely different because this daughter moves from the East Coast to South Texas to accomplish her "calling"; to ensure that her Mamacita is taken care of properly. As a result, the author left her husband behind in the Washington, D.C. area with the confidence of his love and support for their culture and family obligation. The author candidly talks about the struggles, challenges and joys of a Hispanic/Latinic family coping and living with a loved one with Alzheimer's. This book is written in English, in the Tex/Mex style as she was raised under along with some sayings "dichos" for good memories.
Welcome to all of you who are caring for your loved one, your payment will be in Heaven!
EXCERPT:
CHAPTER-3:
My Beloved Mother (p. 19)
Oh yes, my sweet mamacita, bless her heart (su corazon) and her brain, whatever is left of it. Through time, in front of my very own eyes, to my surprise, mi mamacita's brain was transformed from my mother to a child of about four or five years of age. I just could not believe it! In the early days, I asked myself, how can my mother, an eighty seven year old Hispanic lady who weighs 120 lbs and 5 feet tall, how can this happen? Oh, my goodness! This mamacita of mine, who gave birth to me and brought me into this world, now has child-like behavior. Can you believe she throws tantrums? Yes, real tantrums! I also have to smile and compliment her smiles which are beautiful sights to see;they just melt me...... (for more details , please read my book, Mi Mamacita Tiene Alzheimer's). Thank you!
